One of the most popular TV series of all-time, Game of Thrones is the television adaptation of writer George R. R. Martin’s bestseller series titled A Song of Ice and Fire. Directors David Benioff and D. B. Weiss are the brilliant minds hired by HBO (production house) for directing this well-known television drama. From assembling an eccentric cast to shooting in exquisite locations like Croatia, Morocco, Spain, Malta, the United States and Iceland, this HBO drama has it all. With a total of sixty episodes aired till date (from April 2011 to June 2016), Game of Thrones (abbreviated as GOT) stands at the zenith of television series of the time. Total viewership growing by millions every passing year, this series has got a huge (active and broad) international fan base.

Westeros is in a state of calm. The previous ruler Aerys Targaryen (also known as the mad king), has been killed and now the king to the Iron Throne is Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy). Every house respects the king and is obliged to have a humane king. Eddard Stark (the warden of the North, played by Sean Bean) is a friend to Robert Baratheon and he invites him to become the Hand of the King. Across the seas, in Essos, the rightful heir to the throne, Viserys Targaryen (exiled) wants to take over the throne from the Baratheons and is willing to leave no stones unturned to do so. Daenerys, his sister, is married off to the leader of Dothraki where she is abused and molested by him; in the hope that he (Viserys) would get an army and aid in return. Problems arise in Westeros and the Starks are claimed as traitors. Eddard is killed (poor Sean Bean), while his youngest daughter Arya (Maisie Williams) is on the run. His son, Robb Stark (Richard Madden) starts to assemble an army to avenge his father’s death. The new king, Cersei Lannister’s (the queen) incestuous child, Joffrey Baratheon is as evil as Aerys, killing everybody who does not agree with his terms. Meanwhile, Eddard’s bastard son, Jon, joins the Night’s Watch, a mercenary group that protects the Northern realm from the outside world beyond the Wall. Other prominent houses include the Tyrells, Tullys, Arryns, Boltons etc. The Boltons belong to the Dreadfort, and after the Red Wedding, they become one of the Great Houses in Westeros. Its evil commander, Roose Bolton (the one who betrays the Starks), gets killed by his own bastard son, Ramsay, shortly before Battle of the Bastards. Every house has a story of its own, every place in Westeros has its own account. From the gruesome battles, to the gory deaths this series has been crafted beautifully to portray the events of the time. And yes, there are dragons as well! Large, fire breathing dragons who belong to Daenerys. She, along with her dragons and her army is heading towards Westeros to claim the Iron Throne. Another lurking danger that is unnoticed by most of the people of Westeros, is the White Walkers. Plenty things are supposed to happen in the upcoming season of Game of Thrones (Season 7), that will be aired around late June, this year.

With a record breaking 110 Primetime Emmy nominations till date (38 wins) and one Golden Globe nomination, Game of Thrones is one of the best TV series creating by HBO. From the narrative, to the plot, everything about it is spectacular. The theme song by Ramin Djawadi is a melody to the fans and your next favorite if you still haven’t watched it. So, open the portals to Westeros and journey into this spellbinding series that makes its fans crave for more and more. Valar Morghulis!
